West Babylon School District students and staff were all smiles as they entered their respective buildings for the start of the 2018-2019 school year on Sept. 5.
With their backpacks full of supplies, elementary students were excited to meet their new teachers, see their classrooms and connect with their friends. South Bay Elementary School students were greeted by their new principal, Christina Cotter. At West Babylon Junior and Senior High School, students navigated the hallways, walking through their schedules and trying out their lockers.
To help ease the fear of a new school, those who were stepping into a new building had orientations during the summer months. Many of the elementary schools held kindergarten orientations, giving the incoming new students a chance to get acquainted with their new schools. West Babylon Junior and Senior High School both offered the opportunity for new students to tour the building prior to opening day.
Eager to start the new school year, students settled into their new routines in preparation for a productive year ahead.

ENGINEERING MINDS – After reading “Rosie Revere, Engineer,” the students spoke about perseverance and how it relates to STEM activities. Groups of students were given buckets of K’Nex, Legos, and other building supplies and tasked with engineering anything they wanted. They created toys, roller coasters and other useful tools.
