Supervisor Clavin, Hempstead Town Board Announce Free Winter Drive-In Movies

Nearing the end of a difficult year, Supervisor Don Clavin and the Hempstead Town Board are providing an early holiday gift to the residents of America’s largest township – free drive-in movies featuring holiday and winter classics that are sure to provide fun for the whole family. Standing in the shadow of a stunning 18’ x 28’ LED screen, Supervisor Clavin – along with Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Bruce Blakeman, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr., Councilman Tom Muscarella, Councilman Chris Carini, Town Clerk Kate Murray and Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll – announced the entire movie line-up for the month of December, starting with three films playing this weekend.

“The Town of Hempstead was among the first municipalities to put together safe and socially distanced drive-in movies and concerts during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are excited to continue that tradition with our Winter Movie Festival this holiday season,” said Supervisor Clavin. “While many festive events have been scaled back or cancelled across our township in the interest of public safety, these free town movies are a great way to get in the holiday spirit with your family while keeping them safe and healthy.”

All movies will be held at Town Park Point Lookout (1300 Lido Boulevard, Point Lookout), and are open to Town of Hempstead residents only on a first-come, first-served basis. The schedule of movies is as follows:

Friday, December 4th at 5 P.M. – It’s a Wonderful Life
Saturday, December 5th at 5 P.M. – Polar Express
Sunday, December 6th at 2 P.M. – An American Tail
Friday, December 11th at 5 P.M. – Elf
Saturday, December 12th at 5 P.M. – The Preacher’s Wife
Sunday, December 13th at 2 P.M. – D2: The Mighty Ducks
Friday, December 18th at 5 P.M. – Almost Christmas
Saturday, December 19th at 5 P.M. – The Grinch
Sunday, December 20th at 2 P.M. – Frozen 2

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, attendees must remain in their vehicles for the duration of their stay. If you need to use the restroom, you must wear a mask. Visitors are being asked to exercise patience and understanding, as town employees will be explaining rules and regulations and taking additional precautions pertaining to COVID-19.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Hempstead has successfully adapted many town events to a drive-thru format. In addition to drive-in movies and concerts earlier this year, the town has hosted drive-thru awards ceremonies for veterans, firefighters, boy scouts, graduations, little leagues and much more.

“The Town of Hempstead is committed to providing our top-notch programs and services, as well as cultural and awards ceremonies, in a manner that is safe and enjoyable for our residents,” concluded Supervisor Clavin. “These are essential pieces of our community’s identity and quality of life, and we will do everything in our power to continue offering them.”
