In an effort to keep its students safe from the spread of Coronavirus, Stony Brook University has implemented a student-only on-site testing center in partnership with Enzo Clinical Labs.
“We have taken proactive measures to help our community stay safe, including the installation of a unique state-of-the-art testing facility,” said President Maurie McInnis. “We are dedicated to helping ensure that all of our students stay healthy through the entirety of the semester. We can achieve this together if we each have continued concern for others within our community.”
Student Health, Wellness and Prevention Services has partnered with the local laboratory to provide a unique service for Stony Brook University Students: A walk-up COVID testing site, to ongoing Coronavirus testing at Student Health Services on the Stony Brook West campus. These tests are provided to all students as part of our ongoing surveillance plan during the semester. Testing students who are ill or symptomatic of COVID -19 is also able to be completed in a separate on campus location within the Student Health Services facility.
The tests are designed to be returned in three to four days maximum. Students can schedule an appointment to receive a test.
Enzo Clinical Labs is led by board-certified pathologists and technical managers who combine many years of clinical experience with the desire to produce the highest quality laboratory results. In fact, President Maurie McInnis demonstrated this testing procedure herself in this social media video.
In addition to the testing site, one of the other measures the University has taken was an updatable dashboard, created by the Department of Institutional Research, Planning & Effectiveness.
“Stony Brook University is doing everything we can to help keep our students safe,” says Marisa Bisiani, DNP, ANP-BC, Assistant Vice President for Student Health, Wellness and Prevention Services in the Division Of Student Affairs and Assistant Clinical Professor in the School of Nursing. “And to keep the community updated, we developed a COVID-19 dashboard in which anyone can view cases, testing and quarantines in relation to campus density. However, we know the work has just begun.”
