LEGISLATOR DONNELLY HONORS VETERANS ON 75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE

(HUNTINGTON STATION, NY… January 8, 2020) – Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) recently attended a commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook where he joined in honoring five veterans for their courageous participation in the historic event.

Frank De Pergola, Philip Di Marco, James Lynam, Thomas Struminski and, posthumously, Charles J. Tsunis each received accolades and awards during the solemn ceremony on December 16. Several told their still-vivid memories about what is considered the largest and bloodiest battle fought by the United States in World War II. Keynote Speaker John C. Tsunis, the son of Charles, sharing his own father’s stories of the battle, said that being at the Long Island State Veterans home made him feel like he was with his dad again.

Legislator Donnelly presented each honored veteran with a County Proclamation and later remarked that the program was particularly moving and personal for him.

“As the son of a World War II Veteran, I thank the Long Island State Veterans Home for all they do to care for the heroes who put their lives on the line to preserve and protect our freedoms and way of life,” said Legislator Donnelly. “These five veterans exemplify what it means to go above and beyond the call of duty and it was a privilege to share in honoring them.”
