DXA STUDIO PARTNERS WITH SPIRIT’S PROMISE EQUINE RESCUE TO DESIGN FARM BARN FACILITY EXPANSION IN RIVERHEAD

DXA studio, an award-winning architecture and design firm based in Manhattan, is designing an expanded barn facility for Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue, a community-based horse rescue in Riverhead, New York that rehabilitates horses that support equine therapy and recreation services for children and adults. DXA studio will be designing the Equine Education & Counseling Barn and outdoor program space expansion.

Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue is a 4.5 acre farm located on Sound Avenue near Wildwood State Park. The farm is home to over a dozen horses in addition to various goats, pigs, cows, ducks, and a turkey. The Equine Education & Counseling Barn expansion of over 15,000 square feet will ensure space to provide year-round equine therapy and recreation as well as job training and placement for careers within the agriculture and tourism community on Long Island. The new barn will also enable visitors to learn about the care, diet and history of the animals that live there. The outdoor space will be reimagined to create additional program space for visitors and the surrounding community. Certified Minority Woman Owned Enterprise (MWBE) MRV Group & EXXCELL are leading efforts to ensure maximum community benefits and social impact for Town of Riverhead residents and visitors of the East End.

“We are proud to partner with Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue on this project,” said Jordan Rogove, Co-Founder and Partner of DXA studio. “The farm is doing incredible work that positively impacts both the animals and those who train and rehabilitate them.”

“With this barn expansion, we will be able to better meet our mission to help horses help people. We will be able to provide clinical counseling and licensed child care services throughout the region” said Marisa Striano, the founder and Board President of Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue. “The horses that come to us are unwanted, abused, and neglected, yet we are able to repurpose them as teachers and healers to guide people through their own trauma, loss, and grief.” Other services on the farm will include a community clean treatment stall available to local equine organizations and a community horse food pantry.

Spirits Promise Equine Rescue is a 2019 New York State York Regional Economic Development Council awardee and providing support of the barn expansion. The project is expected to be complete in late 2021 and welcomes any support toward their capital campaign to achieve their mission goals.
