America’s Boating Club Offers A Virtual Boat Handling Course

AMERICAS BOATING CLUB of the GREAT SOUTH BAY POWER SQUADRON is proud to offer you an interesting and exciting, virtual blended learning Boat Handling Course – Seamanship. This is a seven week course which is broken up into six – two hour weekly, instruction nights followed by an exam on week seven. This is the next level course which follows the Basic Boating Course.

The topics covered in this course include:

·Rules of the Road- The rules most likely to apply in local waters.
·Docking and Undocking- Issues affecting docking and undocking and how to deal with them.
·Boating with Confidence- Issues you can control on your boat and how to deal with them, Issues the environment will present and how to handle them, How to use and tie knots most often used at sea.
·Anchoring with Assurance- Learn how to anchor and choose appropriate locations depending on conditions, Selecting the appropriate anchors, chain, and rode, Pick up moorings and rafting to other boats, How to use and tie the knots most often used when anchoring.
·Emergencies on Board- Vessel and Medical emergencies, How to be prepared and communicate your problem to others.
·Knots and Line Handling- Function of knots, bends, and hitches, Characteristics and properties of rope, Proper type and size line, How to care for the lines.
·Week seven –Exam Night…March 18, 2021

Pre-registration is required, with a deadline of December 18, 2020. The registration and supply fee with the eBook kit is $83.00, or $63.00 for Squadron Members. The “Boat Handling Course – Seamanship” Virtual Seminar is being offered to the public by America’s Boating Club and the United States Power Squadron of the Great South Bay Power Squadron, a non-profit organization of boating enthusiasts who have a common interest and appreciation of recreational boating, boating safety, and education.
